A Message from the Governor of Shizuoka Prefecture

Reflecting on the past year, we faced significant challenges, including the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake on New Year's Day, the issuance of a megaquake advisory for the first time in the summer, known as the Nankai Trough Earthquake Emergency Information, and the devastation caused by torrential rains from Typhoon No. 10 (Shanshan). These events underscored the profound responsibility I bear as governor to protect the lives and property of our prefectural residents. To all those affected by these disasters, I extend my heartfelt sympathies.

Since taking office as governor in May last year, I have approached various issues with a strong sense of urgency. This year marks a pivotal moment as we embark on the formulation of my first budget as governor and the next comprehensive plan for our prefecture. These efforts signify the start of earnest initiatives to make Shizuoka the happiest prefecture in Japan.

While our prefecture faces pressing challenges, such as population decline and the increasing severity and frequency of natural disasters, we are also blessed with many strengths. These include our diverse industries, abundant natural resources, high quality of life, and excellent transportation networks. By leveraging these advantages, I am committed to advancing our prefecture and creating a brighter future for all.

In recent years, international instability and rising prices have often dominated the headlines. However, there are also encouraging signs, such as wage growth and progress toward overcoming the prolonged economic stagnation of the so-called "Lost 30 Years." By seizing these opportunities and boldly implementing innovative measures free from the constraints of precedent, I aim to build a society where every resident can live a prosperous, secure, and fulfilling life.

On this Year of the Wood Snake, I am determined to lead the charge in advancing our prefecture. Just as the snake symbolizes growth through constant change, I am resolved to make this a year of budding transformation, propelling Shizuoka toward becoming "the happiest prefecture in Japan." I sincerely ask for your continued understanding and support in these endeavors.
