SUZUKI Yasutomo

Last year, Tropical Storm Peipah (Typhoon No. 15) caused severe damage in many parts of our prefecture. I offer my heartfelt sympathy to all those who were affected.

Since taking office, I have advanced policies guided by the concept of well-being, with the aim of enhancing the sense of well-being felt by each and every resident and making Shizuoka the happiest prefecture in Japan. Last year, the prefectural government conducted a survey to better understand the current state of residents' happiness. Based on these findings, we will further strengthen our areas of success while addressing those that require improvement.

To respond to a rapidly changing society, we are promoting what I have termed LGX (Local Government Transformation), enabling faster decision-making and the delivery of higher-quality public services. At the same time, we remain committed to sound fiscal management to ensure sustainable governance. While working to avoid placing undue burdens on future generations, we will continue to secure the safety and peace of mind of our residents and make necessary investments for the future development of our prefecture.

To invigorate our economy, we are attracting startups from Japan and overseas and strengthening collaboration with existing industries. We will also continue to support our local industries, including Shizuoka's world-renowned green tea, while taking the lead in emerging fields such as next-generation mobility, including eVTOLs, or flying cars.

Regarding the high-speed maglev bullet train, or the Linear Shinkansen project, we will continue earnest dialogue with JR Tokai to resolve outstanding issues, striving to balance railway development with the preservation of the Oi River's water resources and the natural environment of the Southern Alps.

Disaster preparedness—particularly for a potential Nankai Trough earthquake—remains a top priority. Alongside governmental assistance, it is essential for every resident to strengthen awareness of self-help and mutual support, working together to build disaster-resilient communities. The prefectural government will continue to devote its full efforts to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.

As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Shizuoka Prefecture this year, I hope that all residents feel pride in our prefecture and enjoy a year filled with health, security, and happiness. With our sights set on the next 100 years and beyond, I look forward to your continued understanding and support.
